Academy Award Nominee 'Nimona' on YouTube

"Nimona" is an animated science fantasy film that was adapted from the graphic novel of the same title by ND Stevenson. Moretz played the titular shapeshifting character.

Last year, Netflix acquired the license to distribute the film on its platform worldwide. It was warmly embraced by critics and even gained a nomination for Best Animated Feature at this year's Academy Awards.

Before the 96th Academy Awards commences in March, Netflix released "Nimona" on its YouTube channel, allowing more audience to watch the film without needing to have an active subscription to their service.

Story Behind 'Nimona'

"Nimona" follows the story of the titular character as she seeks help for Ballister Boldheart after he is accused of murdering Queen Valerin. Nimona had sympathy for the Ballister since she had been through something as well in her past.

As the movie progresses, both Nimona and Ballister must resolve their issues before they get to the bottom of the Queen's murder.

Before its successful release, "Nimona" was initially under Disney but the production was halted after the company shut down Blue Sky Studios. In 2022, Annapurna Pictures picked up the production and announced its subsequent release on Netflix.

The initial cast was retained with the addition of YouTube star, Eugene Lee Yang as Ambrosius Goldenloin. Bruno and Quane also replaced Patrick Osborne as director.
