AT&T to Give Affected Customers $5 After Service Outage

AT&T is offering a $5 credit to its services for all affected customers after a nationwide outage last Thursday that went on for over five hours.

The telecommunication company posted on X (formerly Twitter) that it will provide the discount within one to two billing cycles "to help reassure our customers of our commitment to reliably connect them."

It is worth noting that the $5 credit is tied to the users' account, not how many devices are connected to it. The credit also does not apply to Business, Prepaid, and Cricket accounts.

AT&T Restores Services After Nearly Half a Day

The announcement comes two days after the service outage that affected more than 70,000 users, according to USA Today. As of writing, AT&T still suffers outages in some areas but not as high as previous records.

There is also no indication that the current outages were connected to the blackout last week. AT&T earlier linked the outage to the "application and execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network."

The company clarified that the blackout was not caused by a cyberattack. AT&T promised that it is "taking steps" to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

AT&T Customers Outraged Over $5 Credits

Several customers expressed dissatisfaction over AT&T's response following a daylong outage that reportedly affected businesses and important calls.

One user complained that the $5 compensation for people with multiple phones "is an insult." Several also declared intentions to switch service provider, which Verizon took up to offer their phone plans and deals.

The internet provider, around the same time as AT&T post, vowed to "take it seriously" to respond to service disruption reports.

Verizon also experienced a service outage last week, albeit at a much lower number. Time noted nearly 3,400 users reported service disruptions around 10 a.m. ET.

At least 1,700 T-Mobile customers also reported outages at the same time as Verizon.
