AI Features are Flooding Smartphones: Should We Be Worried?

AI is expanding rapidly across all applications of technology. This growing trend is best seen in recent installments of smartphones where AI takes the highlight.

From the latest Samsung Galaxy to the upcoming Apple iPhone 16, all swore to use the power of AI to streamline their devices.

Despite the promise of advancement, the question as to why more AI functions are being added to phones remains somewhat unanswered.

Even more, are these recent changes worth the need to be worried about?

AI to Streamline Phone Navigation

Most of the AI tools and features introduced in modern smartphones have so far been primarily focused on providing easier navigation and use of the devices.

Just in the past year, phone brands have launched their own chatbots to help users navigate apps, settings, and preferences.

The application of AI technology to phones for consumers has been mostly as an assistant rather than as a replacement as it did in other fields of technology.

Even there, "AI hallucinations" and other weaknesses still bug the function for people to be fully dependent on the technology outside of content algorithm purposes.

That said, it is still recommended to take caution on jumping into new AI trends without much precaution.

It is no secret that companies have been using user data to train their AI model, often without notifying the customer where the data was taken.

Limiting how much information is given to AI, especially those connected to cloud servers, can be beneficial if you want to limit the personal data available online.
