Spotify Introduces Q&A-Like Feature 'Song Psychic' That Responds With Music

Spotify rolled out a new feature called Song Psychic, which allows users to seek answers through music.

Upon trying the feature, users are given nine topics to choose from: school, style, lunch, love, career, myself, my future, friends and family and life's greatest mysteries.

Spotify Song Psychic Provides New Musical Experience

Previously, Spotify launched its DJ feature that brought a new way to discover new songs and, at the same time, enjoy some of the user's favorite tracks. Jumping from that experiment, the streaming platform embarked on a new tool that can elevate the music experience.

Song Psychic is now available on Spotify's app. Users can either click through the website or use the search tab on the app and type "Song Psychic." Aside from choosing from nine topics, users can also let the feature decide for them.

Each topic has its own pre-populated questions like "Should I bring a sweater?" "Does my crush like me back?" or even "What should I have for lunch?" A contemplation screen will be shown as the Song Psychic tries to find the perfect song to answer the question. Once the music appears, users can either listen to the song, ask another question, or share the results on social media.

Spotify Invests on Interactive Music Experience

According to Spotify, Song Psychic was based on the data that nearly 250,000 psychic-related playlists were created on the platform.

"A look at the data tells us that listeners aren't only turning to the stars for advice-they're also turning to music," the company wrote.

Aside from the DJ feature, Spotify is well-known for establishing a trend of a year-end review called "Wrapped." Before each year ends, users are looking forward to sharing their music insights for the whole year with the world.

Spotify does not explicitly advertise Song Psychic as an AI-powered tool. The company explained that the answers are generated entirely at random and no personal data is at stake. In addition, the system works by matching specific keywords in song titles and questions.

The company also had a full disclosure that the experience is for entertainment only and should not be considered "a serious source of advice on any issue whatsoever."
