Johnson & Johnson Supports Surgical Advancement Through AI

In a press release, Johnson & Johnson shared that the company is working towards an advanced healthcare system that is more connected and personalized. Moreover, the company believes that NVIDIA's AI platform could help their cause.

The company will be using the NVIDIA IGX edge computing platform which would help create infrastructure such as AI-powered software applications in the OR.

In addition, advanced edge computing would allow healthcare to localize their data processing within the OR, a vital tool for providing real-time surgical data.

"Bringing advanced edge computing hardware and software to the OR enables scalability of innovation and new AI-powered solutions for clinical decision-making, education and training, and collaboration - with the ultimate goal of advancing patient care," said Shan Jegatheeswaran, VP and global head of Digital Medtech.

NVIDIA to Provide NVIDIA Holoscan, IGX to Healthcare

Aside from the NVIDIA IGX, the company will also use the NVIDIA Holoscan edge AI platform which will be used for building medical devices. Both platforms will provide secure and real-time processing from devices across the operating rooms.

For instance, the Holoscan is equipped with reference pipelines that help build AI applications for a variety of medical cases such as endoscopy, ultrasounds, and other sensors.

In the future, both companies are looking forward to enabling interactions between surgeons and chatbots. The insights would be used as the patient's medical history.
