TikTok Adds ‘Search Value’ as One of Its Metrics for Content Monetization

Even with the looming ban in the US, TikTok continues to develop its rewards program so that creators can continue to earn by creating content for the platform. The new metrics for Creator Rewards have been released, and "search value" now serves as a factor in monetization.

Search Value for Content

The short-form video app is becoming the go-to platform for many things, not just entertainment. Some users now prefer to use TikTok over Google when they are searching for certain topics like which restaurant to visit in Japan or the best way to cook carbonara.

Now, creators will have to consider what users are likely to search for when making content. They can even use tools that are provided by TikTok such as the Creator Searcg Insights, which lists the current trending searches on the app, as per The Verge.

TikTok mentioned that with the insights, "creators can source inspiration for their content, tailor their creative strategies to meet audience interests, and create content that people want to see more of."

By searching "creator search insights" on the search bar, the app will present two tabs. One is for the trending searches based on personalized data, and the other is based on what's generally trending for the day.

When a user clicks on the provided topics, related videos will appear to show examples of the content a creator can make. If anything, this addition to the metrics might mean that TikTok intends to be a more useful search engine for users.

The platform does offer somewhat of a convenience for users, especially if they want a more detailed and short review of certain subjects like restaurants they haven't tried or video games they intend to purchase and play.

Last year in September, TikTok also added Wikipedia snippets into search results, wherein users can open the page to see the textbook description of the topic, all without having to leave the app to open the online encyclopedia.

The snippet is identified based on the type of information, as well as the format the text is in. Under it, there are added options for the users to click on such as the history of the topic, the organization behind it, content about it, and products that might be affiliated.

Search value is not the only factor that users will have to take into account. It also considers Originality, which determines if the content is unique among others, Play Duration, which rewards the quality of content over the number of videos posted, and Audience Engagement.

Even if a user does have the ability to excel in the mentioned metrics, they will need to be eligible to participate in the program. For one, they have to be at least 18 years old. They also need at least 10,000 followers, and a minimum of 100,000 views within 30 days.

The dashboard for the program has been enhanced to provide creators with more insight into monetization. Through there, they can analyze their content performance, estimated rewards, qualified views, and program eligibility.
