Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini specs leak online, indicate notable improvements over S4 Mini

With the Samsung Galaxy S5 now official and set to launch on April 11, more information is now emerging regarding the smaller Galaxy S5 Mini variant.

Samsung has a reputation for invading the market with a slew of devices of different sizes, specs, and price points, and the company will likely keep doing it. In fact, Samsung is the one who started the whole "Mini" trend with its Galaxy S3 Mini, and continued to follow the same strategy. Last year it launched its Galaxy S4 flagship followed by various spinoffs, including an S4 Mini, and this year the company is widely expected to launch a Galaxy S5 Mini as well.

The folks over at SamMobile previously claimed to have received confirmation that Samsung will indeed launch a Galaxy S5 Mini, and now they offer some specifications for the smaller Galaxy S5 model.

"We exclusively confirmed that the Galaxy S5 mini would be launching after the Galaxy S5 (not that we needed that confirmation, given Samsung's penchant for launching successors to both their successful and not-so-successful devices), and now we've got exclusive information on the S5 mini's specs thanks to our insiders," SamMobile reveals in a new report.

According to the publication, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will come with model number SM-G800 and will sport a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution - a notable improvement over the S4 Mini's qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The upcoming smartphone will also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which SamMobile suspects will be the quad-core Snapdragon 400 model.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is further expected to pack 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, an IR blaster, and a 2,100 mAh battery. The handset will most likely launch with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, as most new smartphones do.

In a more interesting twist, it seems that Samsung will also design its upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini to be both water- and dust-resistant, with IP67 certifications. SamMobile has no exact details regarding the handset's launch, but points out that previous reports have claimed the Galaxy S5 will launch sometime in June.

With no official announcement from Samsung, however, take this report and all such leaks and speculation with a grain of salt.
