China is supposedly using a multitude of "deceptive social media accounts" to amplify people's divide over controversial US domestic issues, particularly directed to the government's response.

Among the issues usually raised are regarding global warming, border policies, drug use, immigration, and continued racial aggression.

Microsoft noted that the Chinese-made accounts are starting to impersonate US voters in an attempt to influence actual Americans.

Similar reports have been noted during the recently concluded presidential elections in Taiwan, another country China is currently in dispute with.

The tech giant also reported an increase in online polls, indicating a "deliberate effort to understand better which U.S. voter demographic supports what issue or position."

This is in addition to the usual modus operandi of spreading disinformation on social media platforms, which has been noted to also surge thanks to generative AI and chatbots automating most of the operations.

The New York Times have already reported China employing AI technology, many of which sourced from the US, to spy on Washington and its allied countries amid rising tension between the two superpower countries.

China has continuously denied the accusations from the Western country.
