Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit, listing all three wearables with an April 11 shipping date.
Samsung launched its first smartwatch, the original Galaxy Gear, last year, but failed to see much success. The company rushed to bring the smartwatch to the market before it was ready and has received a firestorm of criticism over the gadget's drawbacks. Most consumers were disappointed with the Galaxy Gear, but instead of giving up Samsung forged ahead and came back with not one, but two smartwatches, as well as a fitness wristband.
The New Galaxy Gear 2 is the higher-end of the three wearables, and comes as an improved sequel of the original smartwatch. The Gear 2 is less bulky, has a higher-resolution camera, and aims to improve virtually all aspects where the first Galaxy Gear failed. The Gear 2 Neo, meanwhile, is a lighter model that ditches the camera. Lastly, the Galaxy Gear Fit, as the name suggests, is focused on fitness and sports a curved Super AMOLED display.
The new Galaxy Gear 2, Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, and Galaxy Gear Fit were all supposed to hit commercial availability at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S5, but some retailers started offering the flagship smartphone early. At the same time, the Gear 2 and Gear Fit already went on sale in the UK.
The U.S., meanwhile, is still waiting patiently for the official launch next week, but wearable tech fans can now pre-order the Galaxy Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit from Amazon, choosing from a range of color options. The two smartwatches are available in black, gray, orange, and silver, while the fitness wristband comes only in black.
The Galaxy Gear 2 comes with a hefty $299 price tag, while the Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit are both priced at a more affordable $199. Customers who pre-order the wearables now from Amazon will receive their gadgets on launch day, i.e. April 11.
