Google Removes Subscription Exclusivity on AI-Powered Tools

Starting May 15, the AI-powered tools will be available to anyone with Google Photos. The tools will no longer be exclusive behind a subscription.

The expansion will bring the features to Pixel tablets, Android 8.0 phones, iOS 15 or higher, and Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118+ or have at least 3GB of RAM. All Google Photos users will be entitled to up to 10 Magic Editor photo saves per month.

Meanwhile, Pixel device users and premium Google One subscribers under the 2TB storage plan will get unlimited saves for their Magic Editor.

Google Opens Exclusive AI-Power Tools to Everyone

In 2023, Google launched Magic Editor on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The tool was introduced as a generative AI editor that can do complex photo edits through simple actions.

On the other hand, the Photo Unblur helps sharpen shots and fix imperfect photos in just one tap. Meanwhile, the Magic Eraser is utilized for unwanted objects and people from the frame. It is also used to remove unwanted noise from videos.

"Google Photos has several features to help you enhance your pictures without pro-level editing skills, from removing a distraction in the background to unblurring a fuzzy shot. And now we're bringing those capabilities to even more people," the company wrote.

Last month, Google started to expand its Circle to Search feature on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro but skipped the rollout on Pixel tablets. Other improvements like Call Screen, Fast Pair, and Ultra HD on Instagram were also released.
