Windows 10 Receives Search Function Update to Easier Look for Apps

Windows 10 is receiving a surprise update to its Search feature that will help users look for apps much faster and easier.

According to its latest update preview, Windows Search will now provide a "personalized app search experience" for "more reliable" result suggestions.

One of the expected improvements the Search feature will receive will be changes in the search results provided.

Many users have previously complained of the Windows Search redirecting users to the Edge browser for their searches rather than just giving shortcuts for certain settings and apps.

The "personalized app experience" could also indicate Microsoft testing out more AI-powered purposes for the feature to complement its Copilot AI chatbot, which is also currently available on Windows 10.

Microsoft Rolls Out More Improvements on Windows 10

Quality-of-life updates on the Search function are not the only upgrade Microsoft has launched with its latest patch.

Widgets on the lock screen will also receive a much-needed update, allowing support for "more visuals and a more customized experience for you."

Firmware issues on wireless Bluetooth earbuds are also fixed. The issue relates to users suddenly being disconnected from their devices without notifications.

All of these are in addition to hidden upgrades the OS will be receiving to improve its performance as it heads to its phaseout date.

Windows 10 Nears End its Service Life

Although Microsoft is still adding little updates on Windows 10, it remains clear that the OS is nearing its phase-out deadline.

Microsoft has earlier noted that it will still provide security updates to Windows 10 until Oct. 14, 2025.

After that, users need to upgrade to Windows 11 or pay a Windows 10 subscription service to still receive security updates.

To help users transition to its newest OS, Microsoft has been directing most of its new updates on Windows 11, many of which were much-wanted upgrades from the Windows 10 experience.
