HTC One Mini 2 to launch as HTC One Remix on Verizon?

HTC has just launched a new HTC One Mini 2 smartphone and the U.S. version of the handset will reportedly hit Verizon as the HTC One Remix.

The HTC One Mini 2 comes as the smaller and more affordable version of the flagship HTC One M8, and will go on sale in EMEA and Asia next month. HTC offered no information on the device's launch in the U.S. so far, but the HTC One Mini 2 may be headed to Verizon under the HTC One Remix name.

This alleged HTC One Remix first surfaced a few days ago, fueling speculation that HTC was working on at least one spinoff of its current One M8 flagship. Now, well-known and trusted tipster @evleaks claims that this purported HTC One Remix is nothing other than the Verizon-bound version of the HTC One Mini 2.

If the name is the only thing different, this means that the HTC One Remix should launch with the same specifications as the HTC One Mini 2. The handset sports a not-so-mini 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz, and 1GB of RAM.

Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, a micro SD card slot for additional memory of up to 128GB, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. HTC hopes to attract more customers with these camera improvements, and a 5-megapixel front sensor is definitely impressive. The HTC One Mini 2 will likely be a hit among selfie enthusiasts, and the 13-megapixel rear shooter should allow for great shots even without HTC's UltraPixel technology. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while a 2,100 mAh battery will keep things up and running.

On the software side, the HTC One Mini 2 runs the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC's own Sense 6.0 user interface (UI) on top of it.

This purported HTC One Remix variant for Verizon is not confirmed yet, but some model of the HTC One Mini 2 should nonetheless launch in the U.S. as well. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more, so stay tuned.
