Apple reportedly solves 5.5-inch iPhone 6 battery issues, iPhablet on track for 2014 launch

Apple has reportedly sorted out the issues that might have delayed the launch of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, meaning that the iPhablet could launch by 2015.

For some context, Apple is widely expected to finally take the step toward a bigger screen with its next-generation iPhone. The company will reportedly launch not one large-screen iPhone, but two: one with a 4.7-inch display, and a larger model with a 5.5-inch screen.

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is widely expected to make its debut in September, whereas the larger model was rumored to face some delays. More specifically, some recent whispers suggested that component makers were struggling to come up with a proper battery for the device so as to meet Apple's requirements.

According to the latest news, however, it seems that the issue in question may have gotten a fix after all. This means that the 5.5-inch iPhone may ultimately launch by 2015, instead of arriving much later than its smaller counterpart.

The information comes from Chinese website Laoyaoba, which claims (via Ubergizmo) that Apple has finally found a solution for the battery issues threatening to delay the launch of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6. The company reportedly plans to strike a deal with another battery supplier in addition to its usual partner, Dynapack, which reportedly had troubles keeping up with Apple's demands. The report doesn't mention who the new supplier is. If things go as planned, without encountering any other issues, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could launch this year.

Based on rumors so far, Apple's goal is of 80 million iPhone 6 units by the end of 2014. Of that amount, 20 million units will be of the 5.5-inch model. As previously mentioned, the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is expected to launch first. Although this will be the smaller of the two, this model will still mark a notable increase in screen size compared to the current iPhone's 4-inch display.

On the other hand, all of this is still in the rumor state at this point, as nothing is officially confirmed. As always in such cases, take all leaks, rumors, and speculation with a grain of salt until an official announcement. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
