LG G Pad 10.1 launches this month as budget media device with premium features

The LG G Pad 10.1 is ready for its global release, launching this month in the U.S. and other markets worldwide.

The 10.1-inch tablet is the largest model in LG's latest G Pad series, sporting an intriguing combination of mid-range specifications and high-end features borrowed from the LG G3 smartphone powerhouse.

LG markets its G Pad 10.1 as the perfect device for on-the-go media consumption, ready to serve as an entertainment hub for music, video, gaming, and such.

"Consumers use tablets differently from smartphones and we wanted to highlight the important role of entertainment in the new LG G Pad 10.1," LG CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park touts in the press release on Monday, July 7. "Tablets are increasingly being used as companion devices, which is why we made connecting the LG G Pad 10.1 to other devices so easy and convenient and why LG G Pad 10.1 offers the best core technologies of our G series smartphones."

"The LG G Pad series offers just the right balance of performance, personality and price to fill the gap between entry level and premium tablets. In an effort to give consumers the best experience across its entire portfolio of devices, the new LG G Pad series will come preloaded with the best of the G series' premium user experience (UX), including a host of features carried over from the LG G3, such as Touch & Shoot, Gesture Shot, Smart Keyboard, and Dual Window."

When it comes to specs, however, the tablet is mid-range all the way. It sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front shooter. An 8,000 mAh battery will keep things up and running.

The premium UX features aim to boost the appeal of the mid-range LG G Pad 10.1, compensating for the mediocre specifications. Android 4.4.2 KitKat, meanwhile, comes with its own share of goodies to make the tablet more attractive.

LG said the G Pad 10.1 will launch this month in the U.S., followed by Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The company did not offer any pricing details yet, but more information should surface shortly.
