Xiaomi unveiled its very first wearable device, the new Xiaomi Mi Band, which comes with a very low price tag of CNY 79, i.e. roughly $13.

The company held its special launch event in Beijing on Tuesday, July 22, where it unveiled its latest products: the new Xiaomi Mi4 flagship smartphone, along with the Mi Band wearable gadget.

The new Xiaomi Mi Band sports similar features to Sony's SmartBand and other such wearables, but instead of sporting premium pricing (Sony's gadget, for instance, costs $140), the Mi Band costs just $13.

The main purpose of the Mi Band would be for fitness, as the Xiaomi Mi Band comes with a slew of sensors that can track a range of health metrics. The gadget even offers sleep tracking, as well as a smart vibrating alarm that can wake you up gradually.

Perhaps more interesting, however, is that the new Xiaomi Mi Band can double as a security token that is able to securely unlock your smartphone when you are close by. The gadget also boasts an IP67 certification that makes it waterproof, and it also has another major advantage over its rivals: battery life. The Xiaomi Mi Band will last for up to 30 days on a single charge.

Taking into account all of these specifications, features, and functionality, the new Xiaomi Mi Band sounds quite amazing for its low $13 price tag, even if it doesn't have a screen. On the other hand, its availability may be limited to China only, or other neighboring countries in Asia. In other words, there's no current information regarding whether this gadget will ever make its way to other regions such as the U.S. or Europe, as Xiaomi offered no details on the matter.

Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Mi Band will make a great companion for the new Xiaomi Mi4 smartphone powerhouse, which will go up for preorder in China next week, on Aug. 29. As with the wearable gadget, it's unclear for now whether the Mi4 smartphone will see a global debut. At least at first, Xiaomi's latest devices will be available in China.
