Samsung Galaxy Alpha with ‘stunning metallic design’ already up for pre-order

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha may not be official just yet, but one retailer jumped the gun and has already started taking pre-orders for the device.

The rumor mill has been busy churning recently in regards to this unannounced Samsung Galaxy Alpha, and it now seems that a UK retailer has confirmed the name of the device, as well as some of its specifications.

As The Inquirer first reported, UK smartphone retailer MobileFun is now allowing interested customers to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, although the handset has yet to make its official debut.

UK shoppers can now pre-order the unlocked Samsung Galaxy Alpha for £549 (about $923) from MobileFun's website at this link. The product page further claims that the smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage capacity, a "stunning metallic design," and a a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display. The retailer lists only a black color option for the device so far.

MobileFun does not offer any release date, but at least it confirms rumors that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will finally ditch Samsung's love of plastic and launch as the first metal-clad smartphone in the Galaxy lineup. The retailer further reveals that this purported smartphone will pack Samsung's own octa-core Exynos processor, a 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, a fingerprint scanner, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board out of the box.

Other leaks and reports so far have also suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will sport a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 and a pixel density of 320ppi, an octa-core Exynos 5 processor, a fingerprint scanner, a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. In terms of connectivity, the handset will reportedly support 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, EDR, LE, Micro USB, and GPS. MobileFun's listing seems to confirm the previously rumored specs.

The UK retailer further claims that Samsung will pack a more advanced Galaxy camera in this smartphone, as the Alpha will be able to take images in roughly 0.3 seconds. Moreover, the upcoming Galaxy Alpha will reportedly boast selective focus features, editing, as well as real-time HDR viewing.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Mobilefun did not post any image of this purported Samsung Galaxy Alpha. According to a separate report from SamMobile, which has a good track record when it comes to the accuracy of its information, Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy Alpha on Monday, Aug. 13, launching the handset in white and black color options.

Keep in mind, however, that nothing is official so far, so take everything with a grain of salt for now. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information surfaces regarding this metallic Samsung Galaxy Alpha, so stay tuned.
