Moto X+1 to hit Verizon Wireless on Sept. 25 – Is Motorola facing delays?

Motorola's upcoming Moto X+1 smartphone will apparently land on Verizon's network on Sept. 25, if a new report turns out to be accurate.

The Moto X stirred quite some waves for a mid-range device, and for good reason. Although it didn't boast top-notch specifications like other flagship smartphones out there, the Moto X launched with unprecedented and unparalleled customization options, allowing consumers to design their own smartphone based on their specific tastes and preferences.

Motorola confirmed earlier this year that it was working on a Moto X successor, and said the smartphone would make its official debut later this summer. With August here already and no Moto X successor unveiled yet, there is a possibility that the Moto X+1, or whatever it may be called, could see some launch delays.

According to a new report from Droid-Life, the upcoming Moto X successor will join Verizon Wireless's lineup towards the end of next month, on Sept. 25, while the summer officially end on Sept. 22. The publication has a very good track record when it comes to Verizon-related leaks, as its insiders typically offer accurate information. That's no guarantee that this new report is accurate as well, but it does add to its credibility.

If the Moto X+1 doesn't hit Verizon until late next month, one possible reason behind this late release could be that Motorola faced some hurdles and fell behind its deadline. On the other hand, that's not the only possibility. Verizon could simply launch the Moto X+1 on its network later than other carriers, and it wouldn't be the first time that Big Red arrives late at a party. With the HTC One, for instance, Verizon took its sweet time to offer the handset, launching it months later compared to rival carriers.

With nothing official in this regards from Motorola, however, it's all just speculation at this point. The company has yet to offer an exact launch date for its Moto X successor, be it on Verizon or other carriers. The phone's specs also remain unconfirmed for now, but various leaks tried to paint a picture of what to expect.

Based on rumors so far, the Moto X+1 may come with a 5.2-inch full HD display with 1080p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 32GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. On the software side, the smartphone should ship with Android 4.4 KitKat on board out of the box. The handset is expected to come with high customization options as well, and launch alongside the highly-anticipated Moto 360 smartwatch.

As always, however, take everything with a grain of salt until an official announcement.
