Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro convertible notebook officially debuts: Specs, features, pricing and availability (VIDEO)

Lenovo officially announced its new Yoga 3 Pro convertible notebook, boasting an impressive design and notable improvements over its predecessor.

The IdeaPad Yoga 3 Pro comes as the successor to the Yoga 2 Pro, which has proved to be one of the most popular Windows laptops on the market. The new iteration now takes things to the next level, as it's even sleeker and lighter than its predecesso.

In fact, the Yoga 3 Pro is 17 percent thinner and 14 percent lighter than the Yoga 2 Pro, "weighing less than a bottle of water," according to Lenovo.

"While the YOGA 2 Pro became synonymous with thin and light, the new YOGA 3 Pro takes this concept even further by shaving 17 percent from its predecessor's frame at just 12.8 mm thin - thinner than a pencil when opened. The PC also comes in lighter at 1.19 kg - 14 percent less than before - lighter than a bottle of water," Lenovo touts in a press release.

The new model still boasts the stunning QHD+ display with a 3200 x 1800 resolution, and the company has likely fixed the color reproduction issues that marred the Yoga 2 Pro experience at first.

Moreover, since the Yoga 3 Pro is designed to easily switch between tablet and stand mode, Lenovo has also improved the hinge design for more sturdiness and convenience. According to the company, the hinge now features a "watchband" that has been "hand-assembled from more than 800 individual pieces of steel and aluminum."

In terms of software, the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro comes with a new feature called "Harmony," which is designed to automatically adjust settings in order to optimize whatever app is in use. When reading an e-book, for instance, Harmony will adjust the brightness and color temperature based on the environment lighting, Lenovo explains. When watching a movie, meanwhile, Harmony will automatically adjust audio settings to heighten immersion, and so on. In fact, Harmony can recognize and optimize more than 50 popular apps, according to Lenovo.

Under the hood, the new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro packs Intel's latest Core M-70 processor (Broadwell) and will deliver up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge. Lenovo will offer the device in configurations of up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of flash storage, but most stores will carry a model with a 256GB drive.

Another thing worth pointing out is that the new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro comes with 5GHz Wi-Fi 802.11ac, which should eliminate the Wi-Fi issues its predecessor faced.

"The new YOGA 3 Pro convertible PC is the result of continual refinement and listening to customer feedback," touted Dilip Bhatia, Vice President of Design and Marketing at Lenovo PC Group. "While users told us they loved what YOGA allows them to do with the four modes, they wanted it even thinner and lighter. We have responded with an innovative new hinge design, and continued to evolve YOGA into a truly adaptable, intelligent device. Today I believe YOGA is among the world's best notebook computers."

"The new Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro design is an outstanding example of the innovation we are seeing in 2-in-1 systems," added Kirk Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel. "With its incredibly thin design and four modes, combined with the processing performance in our new Intel Core M processor, users now have amazing flexibility on a single 2-in-1 system to work and play the way they want to, whether it's enjoying content like movies and music or working on their next presentation."

The new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro notebook will be available later this month from Lenovo's online store and Best Buy, with a starting price of $1,349, and will come in silver, orange, and gold color options. In the meantime, check out the video below.
