HTC Desire 820 mini spotted in China with $228 price tag

An HTC Desire 820 mini smartphone has apparently surfaced quietly in China, sporting a price tag of 1,399 yuan (about $228).

Just recently, the HTC Desire 820 mini was spotted in China on HTC's official website, which listed the device with the D820mu model number. That listing was later pulled, but the smartphone nonetheless appears on TMall's website.

As you can see in the image above, posted by MyDrivers, the HTC Desire 820 mini basically very similar to the full-size Desire 820, sporting the exact same design and no modifications on the front of the device.

In terms of specifications, the HTC Desire 820 mini comes with a smaller 5-inch display, but retains the same 720p HD resolution as its big brother. The rear panel of the new smartphone appears to be slightly changed, featuring an 8-megapixel camera with a single LED flash, located to the center rather than the left side. On the front, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel shooter and dual BoomSound speakers. In terms of weight and dimensions, the handset is 9.6 mm thick and weighs in at 162.3 grams.

Under the hood, the HTC Desire 820 mini packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, but the CPU model is unspecified. It is likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 or 410, but it remains unconfirmed at this point.

Other specs and features of the HTC Desire 820 mini include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, dual-SIM support, microSD expansion slot for additional memory, and a 2,100 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the smartphone ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Overall, the HTC Desire 820 mini sounds like a capable smartphone with an affordable price tag, and it's no big surprise that it doesn't come with high-end specifications.

It remains unclear for now when or if the HTC Desire 820 mini will make its way to other markets, as the company has made no official announcement in this regards. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned. In the meantime, interested buyers in China can find the smartphone on TMall's website at this link.
