LG G3 reportedly gets new update to fix UI lag issue

The LG G3 in some countries is reportedly receiving a software update that aims to fix the lagging user interface (UI) many users complained about.

In a fiercely-competitive smartphone market, the LG G3 is considered one of the hottest devices currently available, and the smartphone has drawn plenty of interest worldwide since its debut.

At the same time, ever since the LG G3 officially hit the market, a number of users have reported an annoying lag in the smartphone's user interface, which was attributed to LG's own custom firmware that runs on top of Android.

The LG G3 comes with high-end specs and features such as a QHD display, a quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, a hefty 3GB of RAM, and more, but this UI lag has plagued the experience for many users worldwide.

LG has already reduced the number and heaviness of its own apps that run on top of Android, but the company still has some work to do to completely eliminate this UI lag issue. Despite the fact that the LG G3 doesn't come with heavy OEM customizations, LG still had to roll out two or three firmware updates (depending on market) to patch things up and improve the overall experience.

The UI lag, however, persisted in many cases, and the company is reportedly making another attempt to fix this issue with a new update. The latest software for the LG G3 will still keep the device on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but should significantly speed up the UI responsiveness, Digipassion reports. According to the publication, the new update is rolling out in several regions including India, Thailand, and some European countries.

"We have got an Indian variant LG G3 D855 in our office and noticed this update when checked via LG Mobile Support Tool. However, there was no OTA update notification when checked via Update Center app. Some LG G3 users at XDA forums reported that they have updated their phone after getting OTA notification of this update (OTA update stands at around 174MB). As usual almost all variants are going to get it sooner or later," adds the Digipassion report.

LG has yet to provide an official changelog for this update, but the package will reportedly improve the handset's battery performance as well, in addition to making the UI faster and more responsive.

It's worth pointing out, however, that while an OTA will install only the update package, getting the software through the LG Mobile Support Tool will install the entire firmware, which means that it will last longer.
