The odd-looking BlackBerry Passport smartphone with a square design is now back in stock on the company's online store, at the same $599 price point unlocked.
BlackBerry may have lost significant ground to rivals on the smartphone market, but the company is definitely not willing to give up the fight just yet. The latest flagship from BlackBerry came in late September as the square-ish and intriguing BlackBerry Passport, which went on sale a couple of months ago.
More specifically, the BlackBerry Passport went on sale at the company's online store back in September, and went out of stock shortly afterward. It remained unclear just when BlackBerry planned to replenish stock of the device, but the BlackBerry Passport is now officially available again straight from the company.
As a reminder, the BlackBerry Passport sports a 4.5-inch display with an odd resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, Adreno 330 graphics, and 3GB of RAM. Other specs include 32GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 128GB, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,450 mAh non-removable battery. The device's display is touch-enabled, and the smartphone also boasts a physical keyboard that doubles as a trackpad.
In fact, the BlackBerry Passport is one of the few new, high-end smartphones to feature a touchscreen as well as a physical keyboard. The handset further comes with support for HSPA+ bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8, and LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, and 20. This means that it will work on AT&T and T-Mobile's networks in the U.S., but not on CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint. On the software side, the BlackBerry Passport ships with BlackBerry OS 10.3 on board out of the box.
It remains to be seen whether the BlackBerry Passport will be able to turn things around for the ailing Canadian company, but he handset is nonetheless intriguing and has stirred plenty of interest since its debut.
