Microsoft has officially announced that the upcoming Lumia Denim update will bring a slew of exciting features, including the ability to record 4K video.
As one can imagine, this ability will not be available for the entire Lumia lineup, as it will grace only select Windows Phone handsets in the series. More specifically, 4K video recording will be available for the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, and the Lumia 1520.
Owners of these three high-end Lumia devices will be able to record 4K video at 24 frames per second (fps) with a simple long press of the camera button. The Lumia Denim update will also bring a number of other neat new camera features, as well as other features and enhancements, to various Windows Phone devices, and these features will of course be available for the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, and Lumia 1520 as well.
"What can you expect from the upcoming Lumia Denim Update? Besides Cortana, live folders, SMS merging and many other improvements, there are of course fantastic unique imaging enhancements, too," Microsoft touts in a new company blog post announcing the update.
When it comes to the update rollout, Microsoft has already started pushing Lumia Denim but it will take a while to reach all devices. The update will hit Windows Phone handsets gradually, with a wider rollout scheduled for early next year.
"The Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to a limited number of devices in select markets, and will continue arriving in waves by device," Microsoft further explains. "A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals."
It's worth pointing out that in order to get the Lumia Denim update when it's ready, users must have the Lumia Cyan firmware installed. The company has yet to offer a more specific rollout date for the Lumia Denim update, or mention which Windows Phone 8.1 devices will get it first, but should provide more information shortly.
