CES 2015: LG G Flex 2 officially debuts with top-notch specs – All you need to know

A brand new LG G Flex 2 powerhouse is now official, rocking killer specs all around in addition to the curved flexibility everyone expected.

Last year, LG launched its first curved-display smartphone as the intriguing LG G Flex, and now the company has taken it to the next level with the LG G Flex 2 successor. This year's model retains the intriguing flexibility as expected, but also adds enhanced durability and notable improvements in terms of specifications.

"LG Electronics continues to push the industry boundaries with the unveiling of the new G Flex2 at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas. The original G Flex earned positive reviews for its innovative design and out-of-the-box thinking. One year later, the G Flex2 improves upon its predecessor in every way possible with a more advanced design, faster performance and most importantly, greater convenience," LG touts in its press release.

LG G Flex 2 Specs

The new-generation LG G Flex 2 comes with a 5.5-inch P-OLED display with a full HD 1080p resolution, marking a notable step forward compared to the 6-inch P-OLED 720p display found on last year's model. Under the hood, the LG G Flex 2 packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor paired with Adreno 430 graphics and either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, depending on whether you choose the 16GB or the 32GB internal storage configuration. Moreover, the smartphone also comes with microSD support for a whopping additional storage of up to 2TB.

Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS+) and laser auto focus, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery. The smartphone also supports fast-charging technology, meaning that it will be able to charge up to 50 percent in less than 40 minutes.

The company also claims that its new LG G Flex 2 is 20 percent more durable than its predecessor, and that's thanks to LG's chemically enhanced DuraGuard technology.

LG G Flex 2 Body

When it comes to the "Flex" part of the handset, the new LG G Flex 2 beats the original model's 700mm radius curved profile by delivering a wider range from 400mm to 700mm across the front, back, sides, and vertical edges (top-to-bottom).

As expected, the LG G Flex 2 retains the self-healing capabilities of its predecessor and is now able to recover from small scratches or scuffs even faster, in ten seconds or less.

Software

On the software side, the LG G Flex 2 borrows all of the popular features of the LG G3, delivering a neat user interface (UI) on top of Android Lollipop. Software treats include Gesture Shot, Gesture View, Glance View, and more.

Availability

The LG G Flex 2 will hit the market at the end of this month in Korea, followed by other markets such as the U.S. sometime in mid-to-late February. LG has yet to offer any pricing details, but should offer more information closer to launch.
