Samsung Galaxy A7 officially unveiled as company's slimmest smartphone yet

Samsung has apparently made its much-rumored Galaxy A7 official at last, as the company reportedly introduced the smartphone at an event in Malaysia.

Rumors of a higher-end Samsung Galaxy A7 smartphone with a full-metal design have been making rounds for quite some time, and the handset was originally expected to debut alongside the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 when Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy A series.

At the time, however, Samsung introduced only the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 smartphones with metal designs, without making any mention of the Galaxy A7 model.

Nevertheless, the company has reportedly unveiled the new Galaxy A7 at last, announcing the device at the launch event of the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 in Malaysia on Thursday, Jan. 8. The Samsung Galaxy A7 is expected to go on sale in the country next month, but no pricing details are available at this point.

As SoyaCincau reports from Samsung's Malaysia event, the new Galaxy A7 sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor under the hood. The handset is further expected to feature 16GB of internal storage capacity, with no word on expandability or RAM. The smartphone will also support 4G LTE and come with a 2,600 mAh battery to keep things up and running.

When it comes to dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy A7 measures juts 6.3mm in thickness, which makes it the slimmest smartphone the company has made to date. This is the same thickness as previously leaked in a TENAA listing a while ago.

As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy A series consists of metal-clad devices, finally marking Samsung's detachment from its love of plastic. The company has long been criticized for launching even its highest-end devices with polycarbonate bodies, but started taking important steps in the right direction with its more recent devices.

The Samsung Galaxy A7 is the higher-end model in the Galaxy A lineup and is expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5. Samsung has yet to offer exact pricing and availability details, however, and it remains unclear at this point just when the Galaxy A7 will make it to other markets.
