The recently-announced Xiaomi Redmi 2 budget 4G LTE smartphone is now available for purchase internationally, sporting a price tag of $155.
Xiaomi has made a name for itself in the mobile space by launching a number of smartphones and tablets with good specifications on board, retailing at affordable price tags. The company's devices have been widely popular so far and sold out in no time on several occasions, helping Xiaomi break record after record in terms of sales.
Just recently, Xiaomi took the wraps off its new budget-friendly smartphone, the Redmi 2, which comes as the successor to the popular Redmi 1S. The company announced the Redmi 2 at a price point of roughly $112, but international availability comes at a higher price.
So far, Xiaomi devices have been limited to just a handful of markets, but a Chinese retailer is now shipping the new Xiaomi Redmi 2 worldwide, for a higher price of $154.99 plus tax.
While this price is higher than the originally announced price, many may still find it to be a good deal considering the specifications the smartphone packs.
For those unfamiliar with the handset, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 sports a 4.7-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor under the hood, paired with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front shooter with 720p video recording capabilities. Connectivity options consist of Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, and A-GPS + GLONASS. A 2,200 mAh battery keeps things up and running, while the company's MIUI v6 OS based on Android 4.4 KitKat rocks the software side.
International shoppers, however, might want to check the network frequencies of their operator before ordering a Xiaomi Redmi 2, in order to make sure the smartphone is compatible with the carrier.
