Walmart has officially launched its own streaming stick, the Vudu Spark, available now for an attractive $25 at Walmart.com and select retail locations.
Streaming sticks have proved to be quite popular among consumers and there are already plenty of notable options available on the market. Consumers can choose between the Google Chromecast, the Roku Streaming Stick, the Amazon Fire TV Stick, and a number of other such products, and Walmart has now joined the party.
Rumors of a streaming stick from Walmart have been making rounds for a good while, and it turns out that such claims were accurate. Walmart has officially entered the race with its very own streaming stick dubbed the Vudu Spark, and it comes at an affordable price point of just $25. The gadget will only be available through Walmart, either online or at select retail locations across the nation.
"VUDU Spark turns your HDTV into a digital entertainment center, so you can browse, rent, buy and watch movies and TV shows without ever leaving home," Walmart touts on the product page. "Just plug in VUDU Spark into your TV HDMI port, connect to WiFi, then begin watching. It connects directly to VUDU and comes with an intuitive remote."
"You don't need to break the bank on a new TV or commit to subscriptions. VUDU Spark works with your existing HDTV and VUDU is free to join. Rent, own and watch only the movies and TV shows you want from as low as $0.99."
In other words, the new Vudu Spark is basically like every other streaming stick available on the market, aiming to serve the same purpose. Users will be able to hook up to gadget to an HDMI port, power it through USB, and control it through the separate remote control.
The Vudu Spark also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, and it also delivers full HD 1080p output complete with 7.1 surround sound.
Walmart is already undercutting rivals with the attractive $25 price tag of its Vudu Stick, but the company is not stopping here. Customers will also get $25 worth of Vudu credits to get them going once they activate the Vudu Spark. This credit will consist of $5 per month for 5 months.
