LG G4 to skip MWC 2015 and launch in April?

The much-rumored LG G4 may skip the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 and debut in April, according to a new report.

LG really stepped up with its latest devices and the LG G3 was widely considered one of the hottest Android devices of 2014, boasting top-notch specs and features all around. The LG G4 is expected to be even more impressive than its predecessor, and anticipation is already building up ahead of the big unveiling.

While some were hoping to see the LG G4 at MWC 2015, however, a new report out of Korea now suggests LG may wait a while longer to unveil its next-generation flagship smartphone.

More specifically, the Korea Times cites sources familiar with the matter saying that the LG G4 will likely debut sometime in April.

"LG Electronics decided not to release the G4 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition in Barcelona in March," a source revealed, as cited by the Korea Times. "It may release it in April."

Another source, meanwhile, reportedly told the publication that LG will not unveil its new flagship smartphone at the MWC 2015 because Samsung will introduce its Galaxy S6 then, and from a marketing point of view it would be preferable to wait a while longer before unveiling the LG G4.

"Samsung usually releases its new flagship model in the first quarter of each year, and Apple in the second quarter," explained the source. "We need some in-between time to make a bigger splash."

Last year, LG launched its flagship LG G3 on May 27, i.e. significantly later than most of its rivals. This timeframe allowed LG to squeeze its flagship in the empty period between Samsung's spring release and Apple's fall launch. The LG G3 topped its main rivals - including Samsung - in the display department, by boasting a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. LG is apparently considering a similar strategy for the launch of the LG G4, planning the launch for April, a while after the MWC.

It's worth pointing out, however, that the LG G4 is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip under the hood, and the processor in question is reportedly having some overheating issues. If Qualcomm and LG don't manage to overcome those issues in due time, the LG G4 may see a delayed launch. On the other hand, nothing is officially confirmed at this point, so make sure to take all rumors and reports with a hefty grain of salt.
