Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 finally gets Android 5.0 Lollipop

Verizon Wireless is officially rolling out an update to its Samsung Galaxy Note 4, finally upgrading the phablet to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Google's last major version of its popular mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, made its debut back in October and has gradually been making its way to devices over the past few months. A number of smartphones and tablets have already received the new OS version, but there are still plenty of devices who are yet to receive the same treatment.

Carrier versions of devices are typically not the first in line to get new software updates, and it may take quite a while for a new OS version to roll out. Verizon in particular is infamous for dragging its feet when it comes to delivering software updates, but the carrier now has some good news for Galaxy Note 4 owners on its network.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables. The new material design offers complex animations and 3-D views, 64-bit ABI support and improved runtime," reads Verizon's announcement (PDF).

Big Red is now rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to its Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet, bring the device to software version LRX22C.N910VVRU1BOAF. As expected, the update will bring a number of bug fixes and enhancements, as well as some neat features and improvements to maximize the overall performance.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update will bring Material Design elements, improved lock screen notifications, battery life optimizations, ART runtime, improved security, a floating actions button, and more. Users will also be able to set both priority and privacy for the notifications they receive on the lock screen.

Verizon Wireless is pushing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update over the air (OTA) to its Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which means that it may take a little while longer for all devices to get the treat. If you don't want to wait for the notification, you can always manually check for the update by going to Settings > About phone > Software Update > Check for updates. Verizon also offers a support document (PDF) on how to manually install the update, so follow the instructions there.
