Motorola announces Android 5.1 Lollipop rollout for Moto X, Moto E

Motorola is ready to start pushing the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop to some of its devices in the U.S., as the company just posted official release notes.

Android 5.1 Lollipop surfaced couple of months ago, arriving as an update to Android 5.0. In addition to the usual array of bug fixes and improvements, Android 5.1 also aims to improve the overall experience by adding some neat new features into the mix.

Motorola has been one of the promptest companies when it came to rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to its devices, and now it aims to do the same with the latest Android 5.1.

The company has officially announced that both the first and the second generations of its Moto X, as well as the second-generation Moto E, are set to receive Android 5.1 soon in the U.S.

Motorola has also posted detailed release notes, revealing what to expect from the latest update. Owners of the second-generation Moto X on AT&T, for instance, will get version 23.11.21, while those on T-Mobile or those with Pure Edition models will get version 23.11.14. Owners of the original Moto X (first generation) will get version 222.21.2, while second-generation Moto E owners will see their software bumped up to version 23.11.15.

"AndroidTM 5.1 Lollipop is one of the most significant in recent Android history. It improves your experience in many areas including visual style and how you interact with your device," Motorola touts.

Motorola further points out that once users upgrade to the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop software version, they will not be able to downgrade to the previous version. At the same time, the company reiterates the importance of having a reliable Wi-Fi network, as well as plenty of battery life (at least 50 percent) before proceeding with the update, so the process goes smoothly and without interruptions.
