YotaPhone 2 launching in U.S. on May 19 via Indiegogo direct sales

The revolutionary YotaPhone 2 smartphone with two displays will become available for purchase in the U.S. next week, on May 19.

For those unfamiliar with the device, the YotaPhone 2 is an intriguing combination between an LTE smartphone and an e-reader, sporting two 4.7-inch displays - one on the front and another on the back. More specifically, the front display is your typical screen for various phone activities and applications, while on the back the smartphone sports an e-ink screen that can offer more static information. Nevertheless, the rear screen is still interactive, as it comes with touch support, and users can also mirror the standard (front) display on the back panel.

On the front, the Super AMOLED screen sports a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, while the e-ink display on the rear has a qHD resolution of 960 x 540.

The back panel uses far less power, so dismissing or responding to notifications using the second screen on the rear allows for some neat power efficiency. The standard display will use more power, and the 2,500 mAh battery of the smartphone will likely last for just one day or so if the traditional front display is in use most of the time.

Under the hood, the YotaPhone 2 packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The smartphone also features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and auto focus, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front shooter.

The much-touted YotaPhone 2 is now ready to go on sale soon in the U.S., set to become available on May 19 through direct sales part of an Indiegogo campaign, as it doesn't have any carrier partners in the U.S. It remains unclear at this point just how much it will cost when it's ready for purchase, but notable discounts in other markets suggest that it may come at a lower price than previously thought.

We'll keep you up to date as soon as the Indiegogo campaign kicks off and pricing details become available, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can sign up on the campaign page to receive more information from Indiegogo, or check out the video below for a closer look at the smartphone.
