Follow your favorite artist on Facebook

Facebook is looking into new ways to attract its users and at the same time get to know them and their interests. On June 29, the social media giant Facebook announced that it will further analyze the ways its users can interact with videos, making it full screen, tuning the sound on, enabling high definition, and quantifying user's interest based on the number of shares, comments, and likes.

Facebook bases its quantifying algorithms on the premise that certain actions a viewer take on a video can be used as signs of interest or at least, that they are curious to watch the video even if in the end they come to the conclusion they don't really like it.

This data will be used in order to share an update to News Feed ranking. The new ranking will take into account all these actions certain viewers take in order to help people watch more of the videos they really like and perhaps less videos they don't like.

In other words, it will be easier for you to follow a favorite artist or musician on Facebook by being notified on your News Feed on any new available video featuring your favorite singers or actors.

Facebook announced that compared to six months ago, now twice as many people watch videos on Facebook. This change has been brought to light in order to further increase the number of Facebook video watchers.

Previously, Facebook announced that the News Feed update would also take into consideration what video a user watched and for how long. Based on this data, the News Feeds will offer more or less videos.

From the analysis performed on video watching habits of Facebook users, the company learned that in case, someone didn't share, comment, or like a video or a story in their News Feed, this doesn't necessarily mean they didn't find it meaningful and interesting. Often, Facebook users watch or read information about a meaningful event without taking their time to comment on it or like it.

Another major announcement from the social media giant, Facebook, concerns their billion members base in India. For them the company will make available a new striped down version of the 'Lite' application. The new 'Lite' app for Indian users was launched on June 29 at an event in Bangalore.

Facebook Lite for India is just another version of the regular Facebook app. It is designed for emerging markets, works equally well on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, and takes up less space on smartphones. Even if people in major Indian cities enjoy 3G and 4G mobile networks, it is observed that in smaller towns, most people don't have a stable 3G mobile internet access.

Facebook Lite can still function optimally without consuming too much mobile data. It is also capable of working steadily even on unstable internet access. It is designed to work well on older or cheaper smartphones that lack power and is available for Android.

Even if the new Facebook Lite has been already available for download since early June, on June 29, the company marks its official release in the Philippines and India.
