Google Maps For iOS Now Has Night Mode

Google Maps has gotten some tweaks over the past month. This time, Google is bringing iOS users a practical and handy feature for the navigation app. Google Maps for iOS now has night mode. The new feature for the iOS version has first been reported on August 7, Saturday. Tech website Tech Crunch said on its report that the idea behind the night mode feature is to make it easier for Google Maps users to use the app even when it's already dark outside.

Writer Sarah Perez said in the report, "The idea is that this could improve your night vision," adding that users will not need to adjust their eyes given the phone settings for brightness and the dark road they may be walking on. This is not to say that users are encouraged to actively use the app at night on the streets. Of course, this may be an inevitable scenario as well.

While iPhone users already have the night mode feature for Apple's own navigation app, Apple Maps, Google Maps is said to be preferred by smartphone users in general. The night mode feature has earlier been updated to the android version of the Google Maps app. Safer navigation and better and increased usability are the main points for the update, but it is also notable that it comes with a more personalised user experience.

According to Tech 2, the update also allows users to label places they have selected on the map and in the search suggestions. This also makes locating places easier for the users, who remember places by what they associate them with.

Last month, Google has enabled Google Maps users on android to receive saved maps directly from the desktop. Also, maps have been incorporated in some of Google's apps, like Google Search, which has recently enabled users to see peak hours of local business establishments. Features, apart from getting the stores' peak hours, include locating the places. The map feature is also incorporated in Your Timeline, which records every place the user has gone to. The app allows users to revisit the recorded places.
