Xiaomi's MIUI 7 Brings Major Upgrade To Smartphones

Chinese tech major Xiaomi has formally introduced the latest version of its own mobile firmware update, the MIUI 7. Xiaomi claims that there are already 150 million MIUI users all over the world. The MIUI 7 is a major user interface upgrade, not only for Xiaomi phones but for devices which integrate the new operating system. MIUI 7 can be used for smartphones outside of the Xiaomi brand, the company said.

According to an Economic Times report, the new version of the MIUI is branded as a 'Live OS', as it is updated weekly. Apart from that, Xiaomi's VP Hugo Barra claims that MIUI 7 is thirty percent faster than the preceding version. The new OS is based on the Android Lollipop 5.1, one of the Google-owned operating system's latest technologies. (The latest is Android Marshmallow, which has been released on Tuesday.)

Users of Xiaomi smartphones in India have been able to avail the beta version of the OS beginning on Monday, Aug 17. According to Manu Kumar Jain, head of Xiaomi in India, all Xiaomi users in the country will be able to support the user interface in its beta form. The MIUI 7 comes with four new themes-Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze, High Life, and Rose. Users will be able to select themes upon setting up the MIUI 7.

With MIUI 7, Xiaomi claims that battery life has increased by 10 percent. The new operating system also features a facial recognition technology which sorts out photos and stores them in specific albums based on the feature's findings. The device will also automatically go on DND when powered by the MIUI 7 and run with the MIU band when the user is sleeping.

Xiaomi announced that it will launch the limited edition Mi 4i smartphone which will run MIUI 7. The new OS has been announced alongside the release of the two latest Redmi smartphones last week. The new flagships have begun to sell in China on Aug 16, Sunday.
