Analysts predict that over the next few years, mobile users will be shifting from midrange mobile phones to high-end ones. Tim Bajarin, president of research firm Creative Strategies Inc., puts the number  at one billion phone users. This said the world may be seeing a surge in new quality smartphones, and developing countries are not to be left behind in the shift to quality handsets.

As a matter of fact, John Sculley, former CEO of Apple, has announced two new flagships under Obi Worldphone, the mobile company which he now owns. The two SF1 flagships are the SF1 and the SJ1.5. The announcement was made on Aug 27, Thursday. Tech website CNET wrote that Sculley said the new devices are "two high-quality, premium-designed smartphones priced at an exceptional value to attracting discerning young people in fast-growth markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East." 

The SF1 and SJ1.5 are powered by the Android operating system. SF1 is named after San Francisco, while SJ1.5 is named after San Jose. The SF1 is a dual SIM smartphone with a 5-inch, 1920x1080 screen display. The device has a 13-megapixel rear camera. It will come in two variations. One is the $199 model with 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. The other is priced at $249 with 32GB storage and 3GB RAM.

SJ1.5, on the other hand, is a 3G device as compared to the 4G SF1. It also features an HD Gorilla Glass display and a 5-inch screen like the SF1 and is also a dual SIM device. The device also has a different processor and has 16GB storage. No word has been released yet as to when the two smartphones will hit the market.

Seventy-six year old Sculley is the Apple CEO who is best remembered for firing Steve Jobs in the mid-80's. He himself was sacked from the CEO position a few years after. The businessman has been affiliated with several tech companies after his stint with Apple, working as an investor and founder. Sculley launched Obi in Oct last year.
