Nintendo Names Its New President

Nintendo is one of the most successful game companies in the world. With innovations like the motion sensor-equipped game console Wii and the Nintendo DS portable consoles, the company has cemented its status as a pioneer for relevant and innovative gaming. Behind the technologies the Japanese company has offered its audience, both old and new, is its well-loved president Satoru Iwata.

The late Iwata passed away at aged 55 on July 11 this year. During this time, Nintendo has been working on developing new versions of the Nintendo DS and looking into bringing the company's games to mobile devices as game apps. On Monday, Sept 14, the Kyoto-based game maker has named its new president, 65-year-old Tatsumi Kimishima.

Kimishima has extensive leadership experience in Nintendo. Gamespot cites that his credentials include serving as chief financial officer of the Pokemon Company. Kimishima has also served as director of Nintendo America. The incoming president also had a stint as the company's managing director for a time and has worked as a general manager of a bank before working for the game maker. Kimishima's presidency will take effect on Sept 16, Wednesday.

Apart from its new president, Nintendo has also announced new titles for some of the company's key players. ABC reports that game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the creative genius behind some of Nintendo's most famous games, is inducted "Creative Fellow." For his part, senior executive Genyo Takada has been given the title of "Technology Fellow." The two titles for both Miyamoto and Takada are indicative of their roles as advisers for key areas in the company.

Kimishima takes in the role of president in time for Nintendo's upcoming release. The company has announced that it will be launching a new game console called NX some time in the following year. The company has recently announced the real-life Pokemon adventure game, Pokemon Go. The game can be played using smartphones. Just a few days ago, Nintendo has also released Super Mario Maker in celebration of the character's 30th year. The game has reportedly received glowing feedback and high sales.
