Taiwan And Hong Kong Prefer Phones With Bigger Screens Says Yahoo

There is a noticeable trend in smartphones these days. Instead of going smaller, new phablet models are getting launched every year, making the smartphone market one that is dominated by big devices. Indeed, it is very convenient to use phablets and large handsets, as they provide better display and readability and are also packed with longer battery life and other big features more often than not.

It will not really come as a surprise if some countries are revealed to be very keen on using big-sized handsets. Want China Times has reported that Flurry Analytics, Yahoo's mobile analytics division, has found that one of every two people in countries Taiwan and Hong Kong is found to be using a big handset. The phablet has been defined as devices which measure 5 to 6.9 inches.

Phablet users comprise 20 percent of active mobile users as of March this year. This is a dramatic increase from the 6 percent that has been reported just last year. Fifty percent of active mobile users in Asian mobile device makers such as the two countries is found to be consisted of phablet users as well. Flurry Analytics has released its report on Sept 10, Thursday.

According to Flurry Analytics, active users are those who spend time using mobile devices in a regular basis, either monthly, weekly or daily. The number of phablet devices in the mobile market is rising fast, and the research arm indicated that 36 percent of Samsung devices are phablets. Only 4 percent of Apple smartphones, on the other hand, belong to the  category.

Reports have not disclosed clear reasons behind this preference for big mobile devices. Hong Kong and Taiwan, along with China, are known to be pioneer mobile makers in Asia. Over the past few months, the countries, especially China, have been making waves in the tech industry. Chinese startup Xiaomi has been introducing new smartphone models and other devices internationally while Taiwan-based Asus has just released a 256GB smartphone last month.
