The Nextbit Robin Gives A Fresher Take On Smartphones

There's one huge problem with smartphones that we're facing even until now. Well, two, actually. First is the storage -- you never seem to get too much of it. You always run low, you always run out. And problem number two, design. Today's standards, by design, dictates that a smartphone should be a pocketable slab. It should be able to do more than what it actually looks like, substance goes above style.

There have been several fixes to address such issues. Expandable storage spaces through microSD cards, USB-OTG capability, very, very limited cloud storage space, you name it, they tried it. However, those are temporary fixes to a long term problem. This is what Nextbit's Robin seeks to change -- it's the smarter smartphone that's supercharged with the cloud.

Robin seamlessly expands its storage online so there's always room for what you need. It intelligently adapts to your needs. It learns which apps you need the most and it offloads the things that you don't need or use up in the cloud. Everything you need would be stored locally and everything that you want is tucked up safely in cloud storage.

As for the second problem, well, Robin is simply a looker. It doesn't look like any other Android phone, it's in a class of its own! The folks at Nexbit are equipped with a 'fair bit' of experience in making phones like the G1, Nexus Evo, HTC M7 and M8, so you're covered if you're worrying too much about the design.

As far as the specifications go, Robin is armed with a Snapdragon 808 chipset, 3GB of RAM to deliver a butter-smooth experience. 32GB of RAM and 100GB of cloud storage would definitely take the cake on capacity. And it comes with 5.2-inches of full HD display, and dual front facing stereo speakers are onboard for that sweet entertainment experience even when you're on the move. There are 13MP and 5MP snappers to keep the shutterbug in you running. Of course, USB Type-C is also served to sweeten the deal.

Nextbit's Robin has achieved its funding goal of $500,00 in a matter of hours, and there are still 16 days to go before the campaign ends. There's a stretch goal of $1,000,000 if you want the team to add a quick charger on every Robin. However, that isn't so much of a stretch all thanks to the pledged total of $985,236 at the time of writing.
