Qualcomm Has Announced Two Chipsets For Mid-range Devices

Qualcomm, the company that brought the chipsets that are currently powering many famous smartphone brands including the likes of Samsung, BlackBerry and LG, has announced two new processors for  mid-range devices. The frequently mentioned name for processors has often been cited alongside flagship models, but this time, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC  and Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 are arriving at the upcoming commercial devices.

According to Tech 2, the Qualcomm 430 SoC-equipped devices are expected to land the market in 2016, while the Qualcomm 617 gadgets are slated to come by the end of this year. The two new processors will be bringing in better connectivity and advancements in multiple media platforms for mid-range mobile devices. However, Qualcomm has not indicated which specific models will have the new chipsets.

Both the Snapdragon 430 SoC and Snapdragon 617 are coming with octa-core configuration. They are equipped with A53 CPUs. The difference is that, for the Snapdragon 617, the processor runs 1.5 GHz. The Snapdragon 430 SoC, on the other hand, runs at 1.2 GHz. Speed for downloading also varies between the two chipsets.

The Snapdragon 430 downlink has a speed of 150 Mbps and an uplink speed of up to 75 Mbps. The 617 chipset is faster with a download speed of 300 Mbps and upload speed of 100 Mbps. Both chipsets are expected to be equipped with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0. The new technology allows users to maximize efficiency for energy acquired in charging. Qualcomm claims that the Quick Charge 3.0 allows the battery charge to go from 0 to 85 percent in less than an hour.

"The introduction of these new processors is a clear indication that we are listening to the needs of our customers who want ever improving cameras, faster connectivity, and better battery life across all available price points," said senior vice president for product management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Alex Katouzian.

"The Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 and 430 processors are designed to deliver high-end performance and experiences in affordable, high- and mid-tier devices." The company stated in its official website.
