Sony's The Last Guardian Makes An Appearance At Tokyo Games Show 2015

Sony's 'The Last Guardian,' despite being several years under development hell, is still very real. The Japanese tech giant made its grand reveal at its Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 press conference, stating that the title is officially due for release to the Playstation 4. A playable demo was also available to play with during the company's press conference at E3. And officially, it's pegged for a 2016 release.

Sony at the Tokyo Games Show 2015 took the opportunity to make The Last Guardian's presence known and felt, albeit in a unique way that everyone was not expecting. Although there wasn't any playable demo for the game present on the company's show floor, there's a gigantic animated video of The Last Guardian's Trico -- a humongous cat-bird-dog creature -- projected on a 6-meter high screen in Sony's booth.

genDESIGN, the studio behind The Last Guardian encouraged the event's attendees via Twitter to communicate and interact with Trico. The visuals were indeed impressive and the animation is quite lifelike. The interactive projection was more than enough to make up for the lack of a playable demo on the show floor. After all, E3 2015 had taken the spotlight for that.

The Last Guardian is the third project of genDESIGN, following Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the most beloved classics release for the Playstation 2. The previous titles featured a stylish, thematic atmosphere with environmental puzzles as core gameplay elements, which would be shared by The Last Guardian. However, it is still unclear as to whether the game will be in direct connection with the two previous projects.

The title has been in development since 2007 and was first showcased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009. However, due to several delays and Fumito Ueda's departure from the Sony, the title has been pushed back further until 2016.
