The $1 BIllion Contract To Protect Government Websites

Government websites hold a tremendous amount of data. Both personal and sensitive data are held by such websites, that securing them is of utmost importance and will be good to all of every citizen in their residing countries. With the massive security breaches that have been reported, it goes without saying that government sectors must expand their security measures to thwart such attacks. Recently, the Department of Homeland Security has signed a $1 billion contract with defense contractor Raytheon to stop cyber attacks dead in their tracks.

Raytheon, a major defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing have recently signed a five-year contract with the Department of Homeland Security, and the deal may be worth a staggering $1 billion. According to the defense contractor's statement, Raytheon will be aiding the government in securing the latter's websites, as well as developing and supporting the Department of Homeland Security and the federal agencies that are using its infrastructure to look out for and mitigate cyber attacks.

Raytheon as prime contractor for the Network Security Deployment Division will secure the government domain. As the U.S. nothing that cyber security is one of the country's biggest security challenges, the White House must take extreme measures to protect the country's networks and information.

"With today's technology, an infinite amount of data is at our fingertips and this increased access brings increased risk," said Raytheon Program Director Valencia Maclin. "As a premier provider of computer network defense to the nation, we are deeply committed to deliver unrivaled innovation to the federal government."

After the recent Office of Personnel Management hack that transpired last July, and the knowledge that other .gov websites are vulnerable to cyber attacks as well, it's quite clear that the government believes that it could strengthen its cyber security measures upgrade that Raytheon is set to bring. The White House also has Pentagon building a system that can instantly detect and combat security breaches before hackers can get the chance to steal sensitive files.
