Samsung Gear S2 Is Missing An Important Feature

Samsung has attempted to release about five smartwatches over the recent years, and the company has reached considerable success with the device. Although the Gear smartwatch has often released to mixed reviews, Samsung's latest, the Gear S2, has been touted as one of the best smartwatches around by several tech websites.

The device has not been spared from scrutiny, however. As good as it actually is, the Samsung Gear S2 has missed an important feature. John Davidson, a writer for Financial Review, has called the new smartwatch "frustrating" because although it is packed with impressive features, important options have disappeared from the latest Samsung wearable.

The review stated that although the watch presents users with the option to load apps on the device, upon accessing the option, users are instructed to use their phones to install the apps instead. "Download Gear apps using your phone," the watch says.

Another disappearing option is selecting new contacts to add to the users' buddy list. The wearable similarly directs users to add the contact using their phones.

A Gizmag review also said that the smartwatch fails to support reminders and will instead instruct users to make the reminders on their smartphones. The Samsung Gear S2 runs the Tizen operating system instead of Android Wear, and it is the first Samsung smartwatch that works with non-Android smartphones. The new device also has an impressive three-day battery life, which is noted to be a feature that addresses charging problems of wearable devices.

The smartwatch also sports a rotating bezel and a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, mounted on a round face.Missing options may be frustrating, but the pluses may still win out when the device goes on sale. Samsung Gear S2 will be released on Oct. 29, Thursday. Pre-orders will also be kicking in on the same day, and it will be sold in retailers beginning Nov. 12.
