Among the pros to Amazon Kindle Oasis are included the bright and even LED backlight, the leather battery case included and the fact that the device is the lightest and thinnest Kindle yet. However, there are also some cons to Kindle Oasis. The gadget is not water resistant, comes with no ambient light sensor and, unfortunately, comes at an expensive price.
The Kindle Oasis looks very different to other e-readers designed by the team at Amazon. The device is the most compact Kindle to date, thanks to its trim bezels and stunning asymmetrical design.
Kindle Oasis' frame is a wedge shape, packing the circuitry, battery and physical page-turn buttons on one side. Its shape and frame design make the Kindle Oasis ideal for one-handed reading.
The Kindle Oasis measures 0.3 inches or 8.5 mm at the thickest end of the wedge. From there, it gets thin to an impressive 0.13 inches or 3.4 mm. The cutting-edge device is also ultra lightweight at its only 4.6 oz. or 131 g.
According to Amazon, the battery in Kindle Oasis can last a few weeks. However, when connected to the leather cover case, battery capacity increases to a few months.
Despite the compact new design of the latest device, Amazon's Oasis keeps the same 6-inch screen size of the Kindle range. The e-reader features the same sharp 300 pixels-per-inch touchscreen e-ink display found on the Kindle Voyage and Kindle Paperwhite. On its high-quality screen mimicking a printed page even the smaller font size appears pin-sharp.
The Australian Financial Review Magazine states that despite the expensive price tag of $449 for an Oasis, the moment a potential customer would see this new e-reader, it is most likely that they are going to want to buy it.
