More Streaming Services Join T-Mobile's Binge On Plan

T-Mobile beefed up its Binge On streaming program by adding several new video services, announced on Tuesday. These streaming services include Spotify, NBC, Google Play Music, TIDAL, Radio Disney and many others. T-Mobile customers can now enjoy watching videos and listening to music without draining their mobile data plan.

The carrier now boasts more than 80 video services, including the latest expansion of its Binge On program. This move shows that T-Mobile is determined to keep its existing subscribers and gain new ones. Since it was launched last November, Binge On has shaken up other mobile service providers such as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon to bolster their incentive programs and deals.

"In the six months since we launched Binge On, the number of video providers streaming free without using your data has grown more than 240%," said John Legere, T-Mobile president and CEO. "We've got something for everyone, and customers never have to worry about getting slammed with ridiculous overage penalties."

The new video streaming services that were added to Binge On include Google Play Music, Great Big Story, NBC, Kiswe, Ligonier Ministries, NOGGIN, Qello Concerts, Radio Disney, Univision, Univision Noticias, Spotify, TIDAL and Toon Goggles.

Binge On is available for free, and it is aimed at customers who like watching their favorite movies and TV shows on the go. Also, they don't have to worry about the expensive cost of exceeding their monthly data plan when using cellular service. According to the company, T-Mobile subscribers have streamed over 377 million hours of video without consuming their mobile data in six months.

Some cite a possible downside to Binge On is that it compresses video to a 480-pixel resolution. To compare, an HD TV provides 1,080 pixels. However, T-Mobile believes that the video quality is adequate for a mobile device. The company also said that 93 percent of its subscribers are satisfied with the video compression, based on a survey. This suggests that customers can watch more content without requiring faster data speed.
