WhatsApp To Get An Overhaul On iOS

WhatsApp has become a staple on every smartphone. From its easy interface to the number of activities that users can partake in, it has somehow set itself apart from other messaging apps. The company does not plan on slowing down anytime soon though. In fact, it will be hauling out an update soon, specifically for iOS users.

Those who use WhatsApp on their iPhones and iPads will soon be able to share music, according to Times Of India. Songs can be shared through either Apple Music, or anything from one device to another. A small music icon will be visible to the users, which will also come with album art. Tapping on the icon will allow users to start listening to the music. One prerequisite, however, is that both users will need to have subscriptions to Apple Music in order to share or receive music.

Other than the gift of music, WhatsApp will also allow the use of bigger emojis. Apple first announced this, saying bigger emojis would be present with an upgrade to iOS 10.

Indian Express adds that WhatsApp may also add GIF support to their system. The publication also claims that video calls are already a feature added into the current app (v2.16.80). This version, however, is currently unavailable. Only beta testers from Google Play's beta testing program can make use of the feature as of now. Hopefully, it will be made available to the public soon, as the video call feature is somewhat a standard in today's messaging apps.

Features that are already available, however, include being able to bold, italicize and strikethrough text. Another is that messages sent through WhatsApp are now end-to-end encrypted. What this means is that messages cannot be ready by anyone - not the government, cyber-criminals or even WhatsApp itself.

It is, however, also expected that WhatsApp will stop supporting Apple products that are running on iOS 6 or older.
