MacBook Air 2016 News & Updates: Possible Release Date In August?

Very few information is available for the MacBook Air 2016 and some reports are even quick to speculate that the MacBook Pro 2016 might kill the Air lineup completely. However, the MacBook Air 2016 lineup might not be dead yet and the latest reports suggest that the light Apple notebook might be released as soon as August.

Some reports suggest that Apple may no longer upgrade the MacBook Air series, as they seem to be focusing on the flagship iPad Pro. The Telegraph reports that Apple's CEO Tim Cook declared that, for many users, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a desktop or a notebook. However, he did not mention any plans for an upcoming MacBook Air.

On the other side, Mobipicker reports the new MacBook Air and Pro for this year may be unveiled at the same event scheduled by Apple in the last quarter of this year. Techradar speculates that the next generation MacBook Air 2016 may be released even quicker, in August. the laptop will come in a larger 15-inch version.

As it has been already three years since Apple has updated the MacBook Air model, it makes sense that the launch of a 2016 version is imminent. Based on a purported claim of a Chinese supplier working closely with Apple, Japanese blog Macotakara was also cited predicting that the MacBook Air 2016 device will come out next month.

If a new version of MacBook Air indeed becomes available to the public, according to Ecumenical News, among its specifications would be included dimensions that are thinner and lighter than its predecessor. The screen is also speculated to feature 5k resolution, aside from a bigger size.

The MacBook Air 2016 may be equipped with a better and long-lasting battery. The device would run on a Intel Skylake chipset for enhanced performance and processing and come with support for the USB Type-C port. The laptop may also be preloaded with the latest macOS Sierra, since the new operating system (OS) was already unveiled during Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
