'Thor: Ragnarok' Release Date, Cast & News: Why Director Taika Waititi Chose To Cast Tessa Thompson As A Valkyrie

"Thor: Ragnarok" is Marvel's third phase of the series and the most anticipated one yet. Many fans claimed that this might be the most fantastic and most expensive of all Marvel movies.

The movie's highlight is when Thor and Hulk join intergalactic forces to take on the Lord of the Underworld. Critics say that the concept is both weird and ambitious.

In a recent interview, Director Taika Waititi, famous for "Hunt for the Wilderpeople", shed his insights. Waititi said, "I feel like a guest in Marvel's universe but with the creative freedom to do what I want. I think this is the most different Marvel movie to date and one of the biggest."

Waititi also confessed that he prefers working with smaller studios that give him more liberty to exercise director's discretion.

Aside from having a blockbuster director, famous stars like Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum. Tessa Thomson is a heroine and is the standout in the lineup.

Thomson plays the role of a feminist character named Valkyrie. Although in the comic book, the character is white, casters decided to take on an African-American actress to fill the role.

Waititi said that from the start of conceptualization for "Thor", they wanted to diversify. Valkyrie, although white and blonde in the comic book, did not matter to him. The director said that he was more concerned with what the character was about.

"I think the story is king, and you want the best person for the job. And Tessa tested against - we cast a very broad net, and Tess was the best person," Waititi said.
