Melania Trump’s Convention Speech Lifted Phrases From Michelle Obama’s 2008 Address, Trump Camp Denies It

It all seemed to be easy breezy at the Republican National Convention 2016 until Melania Trump was accused of plagiarism. After the tune of Queen's "We are the Champions"  fading out in the background, Donald Trump gave way to his potential First Lady's speech. Everything seemed to be fine until a journalist sensed a distinct similiarity between Melania Trump's words and Michelle Obama's 2008 address back in 2008.

It did not take long before journalist, Jarret Hill, figured out the likeness between both speeches. He then took it to Twitter and even provided screenshots of Michelle Obama's 2008 address, comparing it to Melania Trump's speech at the convention. According to what he told The New York Times, the phrase, "strength of your dreams," rang a bell to him that Monday night.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump did not seem to mind this entire hullabaloo on social media about his wife's possible plagiarism of Obama's 2008 speech. In typical Donald Trump fashion, he gave his wife support and two thumbs up on her convention speech. According to his Twitter account, he had been vocal in stating how proud he was of his wife that night.

Meanwhile, Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign chairman, took to CNN the following morning. He was very insistent that none of Melania's speech was plagiarized and it was not derived from any other sources.

The plagiarism speculation caused CNN anchor Chris Cuomo to push the issue a little bit further with Trump's campaign chairman. Manafort responded with, "I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night. She knew that. To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. This is once again an example of when a women threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work."
