A Closer Look At The Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Iris Scanner And S Pen Features

Samsung has not made a name for itself by playing it safe in the tech industry. In fact, it has lead the smartphone race because of the innovations it continuously makes. The most recent, which will debut in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7, are the iris scanner and a new and improved S Pen.

According to Android Authority, the iris scanner can be accessed via the lock feature. Particularly, a new "Irises" option appears right below fingerprints. Leaked videos show that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 unlocks very quickly indeed when the feature is used. In order for it to work, the user needs to hold the phone around 30 cms from the face. After Which, the front facing camera will recognize the user's eyes.

However, there are setbacks to the iris scanner as well. Apparently, there is a relatively long list of restrictions that come with it.

As Forbes notes, the feature does not work if the user is wearing either glasses or a pair of contact lenses. Further, direct sunlight will be an obstacle as well. The reason behind these hindrances may be logical though. The light reflected by glasses, for example, would have to make it harder for the scanner to recognize the user.

After all, even people in spy movies have had to remove glasses in order for iris scanners to work.

There is also the improved S Pen to look forward to. It has become a standard in the Note series and will arrive better than ever in the Galaxy Note 7.

When the S Pen Menu is activated, plenty of the original options are still seen - Screen Write, S Note and Action Memo, to name a few. But there is also the new Glance option as well. Further, users will be able to create GIFs very easily and record just portions of the screen.
