F1 legend Michael Schumacher is responding to treatment and is showing signs of recovery from critical head injuries he sustained from a horrifying skiing accident nearly two years ago, his former Ferrari boss announced.
FX News Call reports that rehabilitation efforts for the seven-time F1 world champion might have taken a toll on his family emotionally and financially. In an interview Luca Di Montezemolo said the Schumacher's strength and determination helped along with the specialized treatment procedures.
The 47-year-old is under a full-time rehabilitation staff at his family home on the shores of Lake Geneva. Bitbag revealed that Shumacher cries silently when he hears his wife and children, proving that a strong man is engaged in battle.
Shumacher's medical team earlier said that full recovery from such injury might be slim, but remained hopeful for the F1 racer. Peter Hamlym, consultant neurological and spinal surgeon said that the survival rate of patients suffering from severe head injuries is relatively low and they have to undergo a roller coaster process for several years.
The course of Schumacher's rehabilitation is extensive and his family is spending a huge amount to cover the treatment and expenditures. In fact, a medical suite worth $14 million was installed at his family home in Lake Geneva.
The F1 racer is currently receiving weekly treatment costing up to $140,000 and managed by 15 medical experts. His wife, Corina, was reported to have sold their luxurious jet and vacation home to support his recuperation.
It was revealed that the world-famous racer belongs to the richest people in sports, having accumulated a net worth over $800 million. The said wealth can be used for sustaining his life and his continuous care.
To recall, the F1 champion accidentally hit his head while skiing in December 2013 that put him to coma for six months. Details on Schumacher's health status remains minimal as his family and doctors prefer to maintain the privacy and confidentiality.
