Top Ten 2016 Tech Billionaires List Includes Five Asians; More Than 30 In Top 100 List

The list for the top richest tech billionaires for 2016 was released recently. Out of the top ten, half were from Asia while more than 30 Asians were included in the top 100 list overall.

This year's top Asian tech billionaire is none other than Jack Ma, according to Forbes. He founded and currently heads the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba. His current net wealth reportedly hovers in the neighborhood of $25 billion.

The second richest Asian tech billionaire is also from China. Tencent founder and CEO Ma Huateng aka Pony Ma has net assets of around $22 billion. Tencent is an internet company that offers instant messaging and other online media services.

It is interesting to note that 22 out of the 33 Asian tech billionaires are from mainland China and Hongkong. Other Asian countries such as South Korea and Japan have three members each. India and Taiwan have two while Singapore has one tech billionaire.

The two Hongkong tech billionaires are not only newcomers in the list but are also husband and wife. Yueng Kin-man and Lam Wai Ying co-founded and managed Biel Crystal.

This co-owned company made its fortunes by supplying Apple's touch screens. Their factory is located in the China with labor workforce of around a hundred thousand. Husband Yueng, however holds 51 percent ownership of the company or the equivalent of $3.1 billion. This means he holds a slight majority over his wife, Lam who only has 49 percent ownership amounting to $3 billion.

Japan's Yasaku Maezawa has also recently joined this year's tech billionaires list. He is the founder of Zozotown which is his country's biggest online fashion superstore.

The United State is still the home of 51 tech billionaires on the Forbes list. The richest among the world's tech billionaires is none other than the co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates.
